The slimeball Pump twins are running out of revenue streams

The slimeball Pump brothers have found numerous unsavory ways to turn a profit off of the game of college basketball over the last ten years. Here’s a recap of the brothers’ scams that the NCAA has actually cracked down on:
- In 2002, the NCAA singled out the Pump brothers for criticism in regard to their practice of scalping Final Four tickets.
- In 2004, the NCAA prohibited the Pumps (or anyone else) from fielding profitable preseason exhibition squads stocked with non-amateurs.
- In 2010, the NCAA barred coaches from having financial relationships with the Harold Pump Foundation, the charity run by the brothers.
- In 2010, the NCAA barred colleges from hiring search firms that are also associated in some fashion with college basketball prospects. The Pumps fit the bill here, owning both a search firm (ChampSearch) and an outfit that organizes tournaments and camps for high school players (Double Pump).
I touched on what a couple of low life doucheknuckles these guys are back in May, when the ticket scalping scandal at Kansas was drug out into the light. The Pumps were exposed as sleazebag opportunists then and things have only gotten worse for them.
It would appear that the only money making venture the brothers have left is Double Pump. But that means they still wield a great deal of power by having a hand in deciding where some of the top players in the high school ranks will end up playing their college ball.
With that in mind, is it any wonder that a straight arrow dude like Roy Williams holds back from telling the world how he REALLY feels about these guys?:
“It doesn’t bother me at all,” North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams said of the NCAA’s moves to better police recruiting. “[Dana and David Pump] have influence. The only time I’ve ever been around them, they’ve done very good things. There are a lot of stories about them doing other things, but I’ve never seen those things. Again though, this is a scenario where people are trying to become influential with another group of people. I’ve never been in favor of that.” (Yahoo! Sports)
Lotta qualifying statements in there, Roy. He sounds like a college coach who’s walking on egg shells for fear he might be blackballed by the Pumps.
Losing ChampSearch hurts the brothers, but I don’t think they’ll put up much of a fight to keep it going. Their core business and primary revenue generator has been and always will be Double Pump. Plus, they still retain a sponsorship from Adidas, so there’s no telling how much cash they realize off of that.
