My snarky assholishness is lost on some

Earlier today ESPN once again carted Matt Millen out to reprise his role as Joe Paterno apologist #1 (no IMDB credit yet), this time in reference to the release of the Freeh Report. But seeing as how the vast majority of ESPN’s audience now views the deceased Penn State football coach as the new Great Satan, you can imagine the kind of backlash that Millen is getting from statements like this:

“You can’t discount all the good that he’s done. He has flaws and it’s one of them. This decision here was one of them. It was a mistake.”

Admit it, deep down inside, part of you wants someone to be as Jim Jonsingly loyal to you as Millen is to his beloved college coach. You want to have the comfort of knowing that no matter how many hookers you’re caught burying in the field out behind your house that there’ll be one person proclaiming your innocence as your electric chair cranks up. Yes, everyone needs a Mel:

So in the wake of Millen’s display of blind devotion, I had to take it upon myself to be a snarky asshole about it on Twitter. Because as you know that’s how I pass my time. But while the vast majority of you knew I was clearly joking in the Tweet below, one of you may or may not have been so sure:

Just to clarify: no, Millen did not really say that. But I wish he had.
