A young Auburn fan has his dreams crushed in New York City

July 12, 2010 by John Stansberry

A young Auburn fan goes on vacation with his folks in New York City. Mom and dad suggest that the family wake up bright and early to head down to 30 Rock to mug for the Today show cameras.

So he gets himself a poster board, takes a Sharpie to it and makes himself a homemade Auburn sign. He throws on his sweet Will Ferrell cowbell t-shirt, flips on his lucky Auburn cap and with sign in hand he’s out the door.

Just look at this kid, there’s no way the Today show crew won’t put a microphone in his face:

For a young, wide eyed Auburn fan in the big city, life couldn’t be better. He’s just itching to scream “War Eagle!” for millions of people to hear, but he’s got one problem:

That crazy woman looks like a Goth-themed Mardi Gras float. With every tragedy that befalls the state of Louisiana, the rest of the nation seems to fall more in love with the Saints and their “Who dat?” screaming fans…including the Today show.

Used to be a Saints fan couldn’t be found east of Mobile, north of Shreveport or west of Lake Charles. But after you couple all that sympathy with a Super Bowl win, New Orleans has now become America’s team. Hell, I can’t buy it, to me they’re still the franchise whose fans wore paper sacks over their heads in shame.

As for the kid, it’s a good lesson learned. When you’re standing next to a gaudily dressed Saints fan who looks like she’s ready to compete in a gumbo cook off, you don’t stand a chance.
