Damn, that was quick: Ole Miss wins Masoli appeal, he can play immediately

Just when it seemed like everyone’s favorite dysfunctional quarterback would be shut down until 2011 (or permanently), Jeremiah Masoli has been given a second chance….or is that third chance? From the official Ole Miss athletic web site:
Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli may compete immediately, according to a decision today by the NCAA Division I Subcommittee for Legislative Relief. The subcommittee’s decision overturns the staff decision that required Masoli to sit out the 2010-2011 season.
According to NCAA rules, created by member schools, football graduate student-athletes must receive a waiver in order to compete if they enroll at a university other than where they received their undergraduate degree. (Ole Miss Athletics)
Jesus, that Subcommittee for Legislative Relief works FAST. When we discussed this matter on Lonely Tailgater audio earlier this week, I voiced some displeasure with the NCAA over how they handled it. It appears that’s all water under the bridge now.
