Even after a national title, some Bama fans are mighty sensitive

Stewart Mandel answered some email in his College Football Mailbag the other day related to how this season’s Heisman race will shape up. He dropped the following nugget concerning the reigning Heisman winner:

Meanwhile, the one guy I’m fairly certain won’t win the Heisman is Alabama’s Mark Ingram. As we’ve seen with recent winners like Jason White, Matt Leinart and Tim Tebow, voters hold those players to an even higher standard the following year. To pull an Archie Griffin today, someone would likely have to put together an absolutely monstrous year, which for Ingram might mean rushing for 2,000-plus yards. With Alabama likely to open up its passing game a bit more and Trent Richardson sharing carries in the backfield, I don’t see that happening. (SI.com)

Whoa Stewart, you’d better watch your ass, the overly sensitive Bama Nation will take that kind of talk as an insult of the highest order.  I said something very similar to a Bama fan a few months ago, something along the lines of Richardson being just as talented as Ingram.  Pretty harmless stuff, right?  The dude got so butt hurt and angry that you would have thought I’d just dug up Bear Bryant’s corpse and dressed it in a Tennessee cheerleading outfit.

To make it worse, in the same column Mandel actually tabbed newly anointed Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton as being a Heisman dark horse.  Among the more reactionary folks in Bama Nation, talk like that will start a conspiracy theory a brewin’ in their delusional, bourbon soaked minds.
